The Mayan Apocalypse by Mark Hitchcock & Alton Gansky

Hi Again!
This book opens with one man headed to meet with Robert Quetzal, the last Mayan priests, or prophet. It also opens with a generational drunk, and a meteor strike. Robert claims the world will end on 12-12-2012. Of course, he "alone" is in the position to save who he wants to from the coming destruction of the world.

Andrew Morgan is extremely wealthy, but he isn't one bit alright. His wife and son are dead, so he has a lot less to loose in some ways. Being one of the few to be saved by Robert Quetzal is an extremely attractive idea. Lisa Campell winds up  meeting Andrew, and sparks fly over their views of Quetzal. Lisa is a Christian, and she is also a journalist. Andrew feels that the math, science and astronomy support the end of the world on 12-12-2012.
However as Lisa digs into this story she puts her life in danger, because there are always those who are willing to kill to keep the truth from being known.

As the depths of Quetzal's greed and willingness to use religion to gain wealth and power for himself start to come to light, the "end of the world" and the Mayan timeframe are throughly discussed. As always, I don't give away the endings, but it wasn't the ending that I think most of us would expect.

ABOUT THE BOOK
On the heels of Mark Hitchcock’s prophecy bestseller 2012, the Bible, and the End of the World comes a suspenseful novel (coauthored with bestselling novelist Alton Gansky) about the supposed expiration date of planet earth—December 21, 2012.
Andrew Morgan is a wealthy oil executive in search of the meaning of life. In his quest for answers he encounters the ancient Mayan predictions that the world will end in 2012. That the claims seem supported by math and astronomy drives him to check on them. Then he meets Lisa Campbell, an attractive Christian journalist also researching the Mayan calendar. When he learns that she is a Christian, he quickly dismisses what she has to say.
As the time draws closer to December 21, 2012, a meteorite impact in Arizona, a volcanic eruption, and the threat of an asteroid on a collision-course with earth escalate fears. Are these indicators of a global apocalypse? Will anyone survive? Does Lisa’s Christian faith have the answers after all? Or has fate destined everyone to a holocaust from which there is no escape?
