A Passion Redeemed By Julie Lessman

Hey Readers,

WOW! This was such a *major* improvement over the last book! I am pleased that I gave it a try. The last one just didn't do well with me. But everything that A Passion Most Pure lacked, was made up for in A Passion Redeemed! I had not realized that A Passion Most Pure was Ms. Julie Lessman's first novel, that does explain things to me. I think the first ones are hardest, but I do think that this book is so much stronger that it made having read the first one worth it! This book was worth reading. Check it out!

Julie Lessman

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Julie Lessman is a debut author who has already garnered writing acclaim, including ten Romance Writers of America awards. She is a commercial writer for Maritz Travel, a published poet and a Golden Heart Finalist. She resides in Missouri with her husband and their golden retriever, and has two grown children and a daughter-in-law. A Passion Most Pure was her first novel.

ABOUT THE BOOK

No man can resist her charms. Or so she thought. Charity O'Connor is a woman who gets what she wants. Her stunning beauty and flirtatious ways have always succeeded with men. Until Mitch Dennehy, that is.

Brilliant and dangerously handsome, Mitch is a no-nonsense newspaperman who wants nothing to do with her. Charity burned him once, destroying his engagement to the only woman he ever truly loved. He won't play with matches again. But Charity has a plan to turn up the heat, hoping to ignite the heart of the man she loves. And she always gets what she wants--one way or another.

Or does she? Will her best-laid schemes win his love? Or will her seductive ways drive him away forever? Book 2 in the Daughters of Boston series, A Passion Redeemed will captivate your heart and stir your soul with a story of faith and redemption rising from the ashes of temptation, desire, and shame.

Broken Angel By Sigmund Brouwer

Greetings Everyone!

I was privilged to wind up with this book on my review list for a second time. As time has passed, I have grown to like this book more and more. It is very thought captivating. I wasn't sure what to do about having a book in my "Queue" for a second time, so I was thrilled to find out that I could do an e-mail interview with Mr. Brouwer!
Below is that interview, which I must add, was a wonderful experience for me. Thank you Mr. Brouwer!
Carol :)

Q: This is is the first book of yours that I have had the opportunity to read and I was thrilled to find that you are such a well published author with over 90 novels already! When and how did you know that God had called you to write?

A: Well, first, I love the sound of ’90 novels’, and I’d like to take credit for doing as much work as that sounds, but in terms of full disclosure, I need to reluctantly admit that many of those books are kids books in a few different series, and the kids books are so much shorter than a a ‘real’ novel. It’s been 18 full novels so far, and I also have to admit I’m a reluctant writer. I love being a published author and I love talking about the process and I love seeing books in print, but the actual writing process is difficult for me.

As for knowing when and how, I guess I wasn’t going to quit until I was published. I started writing in my early twenties and plugged away until my first kids book was published in 1990. Then about three years later, my first novel.

Q: What was your greatest motivation for writing Broken Angel

A: I love your question, because it lets me talk about my little girls. This is really a daddy/daughter story, with the genetics and politics as a backdrop.Although my primary concern was to tell a story, I also wanted to explore the idea that there are some dangers to mixing faith with politics, as I'd like to suggest that Jesus was more concerned with transforming individuals than legislation, and that he declined the chance to become a powerful political figure and instead chose the suffering of the cross.

I'd also like to suggest that when people of faith give authority to a leader, as they did when the Israelites requested a king, or when the early church elected a pope, that this authority can also lead to danger. Because with authority comes power, and to retain power means maintaining control.  We see that the Old Testament kings soon became more concerned about power than serving God, and the disasters that followed. Same with the religious leaders in the temple in the time of Jesus. Same with the Catholic Church and worldly popes, whose abuse of authority led Martin Luther to begin a reformation; as an example, in efforts to maintain control, the church leaders of the early 1500s banned English translations of the Bible, and burned William Tyndale for ignoring the ban, because they did not want laypeople to be able to read the Bible for themselves.

Given this, I wonder where American politics might be in a generation or two, as evangelicals discover the power of bloc voting and continue to give authority to a select few leaders to represent them. The innocence and good intentions of the last decade may well disintegrate to a control grab by unscrupulous leaders. Broken Angel, of course, is that speculative world.

Q: I found this web site, http://www.brokenangelsong.com/ with a wonderful song by your wife, Cindy Morgan. You know I have to ask, are the two beautiful little girls in the video your daughters?

A: YES!

Q: Cloning and DNA manipulation is currently an issue among dog breeders. Do you feel that time is quickly approaching, or that it has already arrived where alterations on the genetic level, like the ones that Caitlin was born with, are a real possibilities in our current world?

A:Unfortunately, it’s more than a feeling. The science is advanced enough to make it a reality in the near future.

Q: How far into the world that you created in Broken Angel do you feel that America has already reached?

A: Thankfully, I don’t feel it’s close to  Broken Angel’s world, and I believe credit must be given to the First Amendment. For Broken Angel to happen, would take a major world-changing event like global war, that would shake America's political foundation, and the disappearance of the First Amendment. While my political philosophy is much different than many who like the ACLU, and I’m not in agreement with all that it does, I’m in full support of the ACLU’s efforts to separate religion from public institutions. America is a democracy, not a theocracy. Those who wish otherwise need look no farther than the Inquisition to see the importance of the First Amendment. Faith is very important in our family, but my wife and I have the freedom to share that with our daughters at home or church.  The First Amendment ensures me that our children are protected from people of other religions trying to impose those views upon them in a public setting.

Q:If you would have your readers carry one thing from this book what would it be?

A: I think one of God’s greatest gifts to us is that he allows us freedom to choose our beliefs. We see that in the garden, when Adam and Eve were permitted to choose. With this, of course, comes heartache. The father in the parable of the prodigal son respected the son’s freedom, but was always waiting for when the son chose to come home. We are born free creatures; God wants us to fly.

Q: I saw great openings for sequels from this book! Do you think you will write a sequel to Broken Angel?

A: Already started! I’m working on it right now. Broken Angel has too many loose ends; and I couldn’t find a natural place in the novel to answer those questions without disrupting the story. In the sequel, as Caitlyn is Outside learning more about the events that forced Jordan to flee to Appalachia with Caitlyn while she was a baby, Caitlyn as an adult is about to discover there is a far greater secret hidden from her than the one in Broken Angel.

House Of Wolves by Matt Bronleewe

Me again!

WOW! This book surprised me! A wonderful job by Matt Bronleewe! I am thrilled to see him writing books as well as what we have heard from his music career.  I was interested to find that this was a second book in a series, but it stood alone so well that I didn't know it for a while! That is an accomplishment all on its own!

This book is fast paced!  Lots of movement, action, tension and intrigue! This book starts out with a copy of The Gospels of Henry The Lion being given to August and by his Father, under the guise as something that August's son would enjoy. Then all chaos starts to break loose! Secret Organizations and Societies are plotting to rule the world! In the middle of it all is August and one rare book, as the Black Vehm races to find a treasure so rare that Hitler had sought after it.

Read a copy quickly before it winds up on the "big screen" and you find yourself behind!

A mysterious book with a dangerous secret.

An evil brotherhood out to conquer the world.

One man stands between them . . . with his family in the balance.

In the twelfth century, Henry the Lion collected the rarest relics in Christendom. And to protect his most precious acquisitions, he encoded the whereabouts in a gorgeous illuminated manuscript called The Gospels of Henry the Lion.

The manuscript has been showing up and disappearing ever since. No one knows where the relic has been hidden . . . or its ultimate power.

Only one man holds the key to the mystery.

He's carrying it in his briefcase at his son's school for show-and-tell, and he thinks it's a fake. But he's about to find out just how real it is.

Because the wolves are rapidly closing in. And if August Adams can't decode the secret in time, the world's balance of power will forever be altered.

Merciless By Robin Parrish

Hello Readers!

A good book! Though I came in on the end of this trilogy, this was still a good stand alone book.  It was fast paced, and I liked how love was shown in this book. Though not used in quite these words; Greater love hath no man than he lay down his life for another, that theme was shown through out this book. It was fast paced, and action packed. A good read!

Robin Parrish

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Robin Parrish had two great ambitions in his life: to have a family, and to be a published novelist. In March of 2005, he proposed to his future wife the same week he signed his first book contract.

More than ten years he spent writing for various websites, including About.com, CMCentral.com, and Infuze Magazine, which is a unique intersection between art and faith which he also conceived of and created.

One of his more "high concept" ideas for Infuze was to return to his love for storytelling and create a serialized tale that would play out every two weeks, telling a complete, compelling story over the course of nine months. That serialized story eventually came to the attention of several publishers, who saw it as a potential debut novel for Robin Parrish.

In 2005, Bethany House Publishers brought Robin full circle by contracting him for the rights to not only that first book, Relentless -- but two sequels including Fearless and Merciless. A trilogy that unfolded in the consecutive summers of 2006, 2007, and this year, 2008. One massive tale -- of which that first, original story would form only the foundational first volume of the three -- spread across three books.

Robin Parrish is a journalist who's written about pop culture for more than a decade. Currently he serves as Senior Editor at XZOOSIA.com, a community portal that fuses social networking with magazine-style features about entertainment and culture. He and his wife, Karen and son live in North Carolina.

ABOUT THE BOOK

The world as we know it has ENDED.
DEATH and CHAOS creep across the globe and only the POWERLESS can RISE UP to stop it.

But can anything stop the onslaught of the DARKWORLD

From the earth's depths crawls a figure with skin like granite, flames for eyes, and the face of Grant Borrows.

Every clock around the world has stopped. Time has frozen.

The Secretum have fulfilled the prophecy, unleashing on earth the most powerful being to walk the earth in thousands of years. His name is Oblivion and his touch is death.

He can't be slowed.
He can't be stopped.
And he can't be killed.

But as long as any live who trust in hope and love and freedom, the fight is not over.

They have only one chance before he brings forth the Darkworld.

Oblivion is: Merciless

Greetings All!

This was a cute book! I enjoyed it. The characters were vivid and likable. This book was all about choices. Choices like who to marry, who to date, and what career path to take. If you read this book you get to follow Laini as she works through who she should date, or marry, and what to do with her career. Is she in the right one, or the wrong one? And how can she figure out who is Mr. Right, and who is Mr. Wrong? If you are looking for a nice read, this one works out well!

Things are only excellerated by Wayne's sister moving him into take care of a community of elderly people who have been scammed! Dragonlight by Donita K. Paul (More thoughts!)

Greetings Again!

What? I reviewed this book twice? Well, yes! LOL! I have this quirk about me, if I like something, I will tend to pick it over and over again! I didn't realize it until later. Opps? No, I don’t think so! I think I got a fantastic change to make sure more and more people check out Mrs. Donita K. Paul's work!!! I did read a bit more of this book, I couldn't resist! And, since Mrs. Paul left me such a wonderful idea in a comment prior to this post, I can say that I tried. We live in this really rural place, and when you ask for books at our library they look at you like you are a Martian asking for a donut! They aren't sure which is more foreign, a Martian, a donut or a book request! Uggg!

Meanwhile, I can’t say enough good things about this book! I did check out some of the other reviews from people who had a heads up long before me and got to read the first 4 books in this series. I am on a QUEST to find them so I can read them! When I found out that Mrs. Paul is going to have A NEW SERIES in this same land, but yet a whole new series, I just tingled with anticipation! Mrs. Donita K. Paul, you have a new fan! ;) My book shelves will soon have a row just for your work!

This series is fascinating, and I recommend reading them! Whatever I have to do to get a hold of them is going to happen! Buying them, getting them through your library, or even bumming them off friends to read! (But do give them back to your friends!) I really can’t wait to read more of your work Mrs. Paul!!!

Your new fan,
Carol :)

ABOUT THE BOOK
The fantastic land of Amara is recovering from years of war inflicted on its citizens by outside forces–as well as from the spiritual apathy corroding the Amarans’ hearts. With Kale and her father serving as dragon keepers for Paladin, the dragon populace has exploded. It’s a peaceful, exciting time of rebuilding. And yet, an insidious, unseen evil lurks just beneath the surface of the idyllic countryside.

Truth has never been more important, nor so difficult to discern.

As Kale and her father are busy hatching, bonding, and releasing the younger generation of dragons as helpers throughout the kingdom, the light wizard has little time to develop her skills. Her husband, Sir Bardon–despite physical limitations resulting from his bout with the stakes disease–has become a leader, serving on the governing board under Paladin. When Kale and Bardon set aside their daily responsibilities to join meech dragons Regidor and Gilda on a quest to find a hidden meech colony, they encounter sinister forces. Their world is under attack by a secret enemy… can they overcome the ominous peril they can’t even see?

Prepare to experience breathtaking adventure and mind-blowing fantasy as never before in this dazzling, beautifully-crafted conclusion to Donita K. Paul’s popular DragonKeeper Chronicles fantasy series.
