The Knight by Steven James

Outstanding!

A warning was issued with this book for the review and I tell you what, it is incredible! I don't mind descriptive books, or movies if the plot is good and the story worth the telling. The Knight belongs in that category! While it is the 3rd book in a best selling series, I hadn't heard of this author before. I was definitely missing out!

I wasn't the least bit lost, you can read this book and not feel like you lost parts of the story because you haven't read the first two books in this series. They are The Pawn and The Rook. I will be getting them as soon as I can too! ;)

Patrick Bowers is the "leading man", an incredible FBI criminologist who finds that a killer is tracking him now! The scenes are gripping and as real life as any CSI, Bones or anything you can list. This book is as real as it comes, so if you are brave enough, if you think you can "hang" while Patrick tracks this brutal killer, then you need to be already reading The Knight! The twists, turns, issues with faith are all up close and personal. Quite a masterpiece!

Killer is on the loose with an ancient manuscript as his guide. New thriller from critically acclaimed novelist takes readers on a shocking rollercoaster ride to stop this violent killer before it’s too late.

the_knightSteven James is one of the nation’s most innovative storytellers — with a Master of Arts in Storytelling degree to prove it. For the past decade, he has been crafting compelling and evocative stories that pull readers into the thick of his brilliant, mind-bending plots, and his latest creative endeavor is no different: The Knight, the third installment in his bestselling series of thrillers, is full of the chilling twists and adrenaline-laced action that readers have come to expect from James.

The Knight picks up in The Bowers Files series, starring FBI criminologist Patrick Bowers, who is assigned to tracking the country’s most dangerous killers. But when he is called to his most disturbing crime scene yet, Bowers begins to realize that this criminal mastermind has actually been tracking him.

To get to the bottom of this old-blooded case, Bowers uses his cutting-edge investigative techniques to decipher the evidence and discovers that the murderer has been using an ancient manuscript as a blueprint for his crimes. This sends Bowers on a race against time to stop the killer before he takes his next victim in another grisly crime.

But even as he is working to crack the clues of this bloody trail, Bowers finds himself stumped by another matter: An old murder case haunts him, causing him to question himself and wonder which is more important—truth or justice. The answer might set a killer free or change Bowers into a criminal himself.

Keeping readers guessing until the very end, James has earned rave reviews from the likes of Publishers Weekly, which called his thrillers “a wild ride with a shocking conclusion.” The Knight offers readers more of the same, as the satisfying follow-up to his previous bestselling psychological thrillers in The Bowers Files series, The Pawn and The Rook.

Available August 2009 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Seth Braxton, a patriot of the American Revolution, unexpectedly inherits his loyalist grandfather's estate in England. Seth is torn between the land he fought for and the prospect of reuniting with his sister Caroline, who was a motherless child taken to England at the onset of the war.

With no intention of staying permanently, Seth arrives to find his sister grieving over the death of her young son. In the midst of such tragedy, Seth meets Juleah, the daughter of an eccentric landed gentleman. Her independent spirit and gentle soul steal Seth's heart. After a brief courtship, they marry and she takes her place as the lady of Ten Width Manor, enraging the man who once sought her hand and schemed to make Ten Width his own. From the Virginia wilderness to the dark halls of an isolated English estate, Seth and his beloved Juleah inherit more than an ancestral home. They uncover a sinister plot that leads to murder, abduction, and betrayal--an ominous threat to their new life, love, and faith.

Offworld by Robin Parrish

Hi Readers!

Me again! Yes, I got to do TWO reviews of this book! I must tell you, it was a challenge for me. Not because it is bad, but because it hits so close to home in my heart! I will always feel differently now that I have been in the aftermath and lived through the damage of hurricanes. When the flood waters broke in this book, I sat down and cried! I felt all too close to the characters in this book! No power for 2 weeks cut me off from most of the world. While I knew I wasn't one of the last 5 people on Earth, I also couldn't get in touch with those I loved. I related very deeply to the plight of the characters in this book. I really did enjoy it though, and I am not going to give too much away. I can say I am glad I read it, I would read it again! I would watch the movie if it were one, and I would like to read another of Mr. Parrish's books!

ABOUT THE BOOK

When everything is ripped away...

Eleven months ago, Ray Quinn was a tough, quick-witted Orlando homicide detective at the top of his game-until a barrage of bullets ended his career.and his partner's life.

Now medically retired with a painful handicap, Ray battles the haunting guilt for his partner's death. Numbing the pain with alcohol and attitude, Ray takes a job as a night watchman at a swanky Orlando condo community.

But when a pastor and an exotic dancer are found dead in one of the condos in an apparent murder-suicide, Ray can no longer linger in the shadows. The victim’s sister is convinced her brother was framed and begs Ray to take on an impossible case─to challenge the evidence and clear her brother’s name.

Ray reluctantly pulls the thread of this supposedly dead-end case only to unravel a murder investigation so deep that it threatens to turn the Orlando political landscape upside down and transform old friends into new enemies. As Ray chases down leads and interrogates suspects, someone is watching his every move, someone determined to keep him from ever finding out the truth─at any cost.

Saint by Ted Dekker

Hello All My Readers!

I did my own review of Saint by Ted Dekker! Yep, I have become a Dekker fan and I can't help myself! My goal is to read all his books as I can, and tell you about them too! ;) Saint is a carefully told tale about a man who thinks he knows who he is, or does he? Trust lines are blurry for all of us, but if you can't remember exactly who you are suppose to be, it gets blurrier yet! Is Carl part of the X group who works secret missions, or is he Saint and the man who goes with that life and identity?

What happens to us when we find out who we really are, and how does it effect those around us? I wonder, often, if that is why people have so many issues with others is because they can't except us for who we are, or what we are called to do! Saint is good enough to give anyone who reads it plenty of action, drama, and deep Spiritual issues that will inspire and cause minds to think long after the last page is read.

Carol :)

Editorial Reviews

Product Description

"We call you Saint."

The name ignited a light in Carl's mind. Saint. He'd been covertly recruited for Black Ops and given his life to the most brutal kind of training any man or woman could endure. He was here because he belonged here. To the X Group.

An assasin. The most effective killer in the world. And yet . . . Carl Strople struggles to retain fleeting memories that betray an even more ominous reality. He's been told part of the truth--but what's the rest?

Invasive techniques have stripped him of his identity and made him someone new--for this he is grateful. But there are some things they can't take from him. The love of a woman, unbroken loyalties to his past, the need for survival.

From the deep woods of Hungary to the streets of New York, Saint takes you on a journey of betrayal in a world of government cover-ups, political intrigue, and one man's search for the truth. In the end, that truth will be his undoing.

Hello All!

The write ups are right! Indian Jones flavored in some ways, The Sacred Cipher is full of adventure. This is a book that I think men will like to read, as well as all us gals! ;) Many unique characters help to weave this book into a very memorable work! I think it is quite a page turner as the reader hastens to see what the results of each persons actions will be! I haven't quite finished it, but I sure needed a diversion this week! Thank you so much Mr. Brennan for this wonderful book you have written!

Robert Liparulo

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Robert Liparulo is a former journalist, with over a thousand articles and multiple writing awards to his name. His first novel, Comes a Horseman, released to critical acclaim. Each of his subsequent thrillers—Germ, Deadfall, and Deadlock—secured his place as one of today’s most popular and daring thriller writers.

He is known for investing deep research and chillingly accurate predictions of near-future scenarios into his stories. In fact, his thorough, journalistic approach to research has resulted in his becoming an expert on the various topics he explores in his fiction, and he has appeared on such media outlets as CNN and ABC Radio.

Liparulo’s visual style of writing has caught the eye of Hollywood producers. Currently, three of his novels for adults are in various stages of development for the big screen: the film rights to Comes A Horseman. were purchased by the producer of Tom Clancy’s movies; and Liparulo is penning the screenplays for GERM and Deadfall
for two top producers. He is also working with the director Andrew Davis (The Fugitive, Holes) on a political thriller. Novelist Michael Palmer calls Deadfall “a brilliantly crafted thriller.” March 31st marked the publication of Deadfall’s follow-up, Deadlock, which novelist Gayle Lynds calls, “best of high-octane suspense.”

Liparulo’s bestselling young adult series, Dreamhouse Kings, debuted last year with House of Dark Shadows and Watcher in the Woods. Book three, Gatekeepers, released in January, and number four, Timescape, in July. The series has garnered praise from readers, both young and old, as well as attracting famous fans who themselves know the genre inside and out. Of the series, Goosebumps creator R.L. Stine says, “I loved wandering around in these books. With a house of so many great, haunting stories, why would you ever want to go outside?”

With the next two Dreamhouse books “in the can,” he is currently working on his next thriller, which for the first time injects supernatural elements into his brand of gun-blazing storytelling. The story is so compelling, two Hollywood studios are already in talks to acquire it—despite its publication date being more than a year away. After that comes a trilogy of novels, based on his acclaimed short story, which appeared in James Patterson’s Thriller anthology. New York Times bestselling author Steve Berry calls Liparulo’s writing “Inventive, suspenseful, and highly entertaining . . . Robert Liparulo is a storyteller, pure and simple.” He lives with his family in Colorado.
