 My Review:

I love retellings. I'm not sure why, but I do. This one had such an interesting title. This tale is lesser known. The author did a lovely job of making this dramatic and filling it with faith elements and good vs evil. Protection is a big theme in this story. It has a good group of characters and I liked most of them. Ella and Adam do tend to stick with me and I think the reworking of this story from the Grimm's tales was quite well crafted.

I have always loved fairy tales. From the time I could read, I loved curling up with a book of fairy tales, immersing myself in imaginary lands where kings and queens ruled, unicorns were real, and everyone (eventually) had their happily ever after. As I grew older, the love for fairy tales turned into a love for fantasy novels. My fascination with words in general turned into a love of writing, so, naturally, I began to write fantasy.

The Maiden Without Hands came to be because I had been wanting to retell a fairy tale in my own way. I didn’t want it to be one with which everyone was familiar, so I began reading through old Brothers Grimm books, focusing on their lesser known stories. When I came across the story of a virtuous young woman tormented by an evil sorcerer, I knew I had found my tale. What appealed to me was the fact that there were already some Christian elements to the story. I took the skeleton of the story and fleshed it out, adding my own elements to create The Maiden Without Hands.

It’s my hope that this tale will transport you to the world of Haven, and that the characters will resonate with you as they cry, laugh, dream, and discover their faith. It is also my hope that you will find something stirring in your own soul as you travel through the pages of this book.

My Review:  

This author continues to make the best stories for suspense and the dogs in them. Chloe, quite possibly, stole the show for me for this book. The bond between our animals and us is an amazing thing. It's so lovingly written here. I like the suspense and mystery; it's a steady, fast pace, and faith is never forgotten. It's not pushy, it just is included like it is in real life. Stephanie was also easy to understand and the whole book is just a fantastic read.

And now, you’ll get to know Chloe who is fabulous, but I will venture to say she is going to be outshined by her mutt companion Brutus (you’ll have to read the book to discover his real name and identity!)  My Review:

This is the second book in a series. I did read the first one, and I didn't find that this book lagged. It's off and going pretty quickly. Fae stories can be hit or miss with me. I don't have that problem with this series or this book. Althea becomes quite an amazing character to me in this story. Everything I would wish for is in this story. If the rest of the series is this good, this one is going to be an epic series! From mystery to romance, drama, and intrigue, this book never quit and did it all while being a clean read with faith elements.

This book came differently to me than my other ones.

It was less plot and structure, and more—what kind of book do I want to write?

I wanted riddles for them to solve, which created the Gamemaster character. I wanted a healthy family aspect, which began the process of repairing the relationships I’d burned in book one. And I wanted a character who knew exactly what she wanted and never waivered from that. Other scenes came from these wishes, like the chess game where the players are the chess pieces, and the War of Hearts played in the labyrinth.

Together, I think it blended nicely, and I can’t wait for readers to get ahold of it!

My Review:

I liked this book, and I'm glad it's part of a series. It's a faith-filled Hallmark-feeling story with a fantastic dog—I love that so much! This story shows the impact(s) of misunderstandings, and I thought it was done rather well. I absolutely loved the dogs and the characters.

I’m often asked where inspiration comes for my books. Does it start with a character or a setting or maybe something from my own life? The answer is, “Yes.” Each of those have sparked story ideas. A Canine Christmas is my fourteenth book, but it’s the first (and possibly last) novel/novella motivated by a dog.

You would think it would be my own canine that inspired one of my books—but that’s not the case here. I have a short story in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Life Lessons from the Dog titled “Soul Sniffer” based on my late Bichon Friese, Einstein. He was also in Providence—and his name was Dashiell. I have another short story in Inspire Joy titled “Canine Redemption” about Cheyenne, a rescue dog we had for a short time. But an entire book? Never.

It started with my granddaughters’ Cano Corso, Porter. The biggest (and I mean that in every sense of the word) baby I’ve ever encountered. He’s massive, and yet hides behind eight-year-old Kennedy at the slightest loud noise. His size alone is enough to intimidate the average person, but he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. However, he wasn’t the only inspiration for this Christmas novella.

The setting was influenced by my affinity for old family farms and historic cemeteries (of which there are over 33,000 in the state of Tennessee.) Add a ditzy mail lady who has an intense fear of dogs, and a disgruntled man trying to put his past to rest, and A Canine Christmas was born.

This is romance through and through, and it was a pure joy to write. I hope you’ll come to love Amelia and Rayce as much as I did—and of course, Porter, the canine matchmaker.

My Review:

What an amazing second book in this duo of books. I now need the print copies, beacuse it's that good. From missing memories to Atlantis, this book had everything I needed, included a fantastic ending. I didn't want this series to end, but for the sake of my bookshelves, it's possibly better that this is a two book series. I love being in the ocean with these amazing characters and the faith themes that flow through the story.

Somebody is going to die. But they didn’t at first.

Minor spoiler alert, a character is going to die near the end of The Locket’s Revenge. But in my first draft of this story, this person didn’t die. It wasn’t until I was going back through and trying to flesh out the book a bit that I realized that this character needed to die. My family knows that I am a discovery writer, but they still laughed when I told them how so-and-so squeaked through alive on the first draft, but the death sentence came in the second one. To me, this is actually one of the most fun things about being a discovery writer. During the drafting process, I get to experience the story for the first time, just like any reader. Most of the time, I don’t actually know what is going to happen next. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
