My Review:

From the title forward, I was indeed, intrigued. Even the cover pulled me in. Once into the book, I was immersed in the stories. They are all historical, and all three are fantastic. From the 19th century settings to covering topics like smuggling, forgiveness, romance, strong tales, and awesome characters, this book was a smash hit with me.

3 Reasons to Read Historical Fiction

Believe it or not, some readers snub historical fiction, preferring instead to stick to contemporary reads. Several have good reason to, simply preferring one genre over another. But others have never given historical fiction a try. If you fall into that camp, here are some reasons you should consider reading a tale from the past.

Historical fiction books are not as boring as your high school history class.

Does the thought of endless names and dates make you break out into hives? Good news! Historical fiction is a painless way to glean some historic facts without mindless memorization. You can experience a different era and culture vicariously through heroes and heroines that live on the pages of yesteryear.

Makes for great conversation.

In a world that prides itself on keeping up with the Kardashians, dare to add a little cultural zest to your next dinner conversation. Reading historical fiction arms you with interesting tidbits of things that’ve happened in years gone by.

Because truth is timeless.

Some people yearn to go back to a simpler time. The truth is, though, that the grass isn’t necessarily greener on the historic side of the fence. People have had tough issues to deal with no matter the era. . .but therein lies a great reason to read historical fiction: truth is timeless. Be it ancient, biblical, medieval, Victorian, or anything in between, truth never changes.

My Review:

I do wish I'd been able to read the first book, but I found this one strong enough to make me want to read the other one! Inside the covers of this book is a TRIPLE time line, and enough of Ireland to make me sigh. Romance, history, castles, strong characters - I'm well pleased. It's not a preachy book, but instead focuses on choices and their outcomes as they echo through the ages.

It does hail to Scottish and Irish roots, with the pups and drinks. I don't have a problem with this, as long as people aren't drunk. Even Christ turned water into wine for a wedding, and in many cultures "ale" is still an item that brings people together under one roof. I can see why this author is award-winning. I enjoyed being swept away by this novel.

My Review:

This book starts a new series and starts it off in such a way that I'm completely hooked. I'm thinking this book may top her prior series. I can't wait for the rest of this series! This book has all the drama, suspense, psychologically thrilling, packed into a clean read. What is not to love? Nothing, that's what. Packed with great FBI, profiling, stalking, Kaley totally captured my attention and my fascination. I'm now smitten with this author, even though I've read her other books before.

My Review:

Poor Jessie, she's in the thick of it. How could she have imagined that her brother was involved in such a thing, drug trafficking? More so, that she was going to be a target and have more attacks on her life than you can keep up with in one book. Whew! Jessie is a bit nuts, she keeps pushing because she wants answers. I liked Rick, he's pretty cool. The book has a rather strong romance theme, but it also has a reasonably strong Christian foundation. I liked this book.

A Pile of Stones

Often, the things I am studying in the bible make their way into my novels. At the time of writing Fatal Homecoming, I was reading the book of Joshua.

In Joshua chapter four, Joshua describes the pile of stones the Israelites built as a memorial to God. Those stones were evidence of the Lord’s provision for them. The monument was a reminder to future generations that God had delivered his people.

In Fatal Homecoming, Jessie needs to remember God’s provision. She wears a unique pendant passed down through the women of her family. Her necklace is comprised of river stones that represent the rocks from Joshua. They are to remind that God always meets His children in their moment of need.

Shortly after writing this necklace into Fatal Homecoming crisis struck a good friend of mine. As our church gathered around a suffering family to love and support them in their time of need, I decided to make a real pendant of stones to give to my friend to remind her and to remind me that God meets every need in His time and in His way.

The pendant of stones can be strung on a necklace or keychain. It is more than words on paper and more than a pile of rocks strung on a string. It was a reference point. They mark where God gave me a story to share so that others may know and believe.

If you are the lucky winner of this pendant of stones, I pray that every time you look at it, touch it, and feel the weight of it around your neck that you will remember to believe that your God is good. Always.
