My Review:

It's cold, life threatening cold if you wind up in a blizzard. Thus three families are all hunkered down in The Master's Inn. It's here that Tom and Barb Masters find God using them in a new way. All the families have hurt, pain, and issues. They have things that they are angry about, and now they are all trapped, unable to avoid the issues any longer. Will they forgive and heal? Can a rebellious teen stop being rebellious? A grieving wife over come grief? Can a person work through PTSD and be better than they were? This was well written and the characters gripped my heart. It's a fantastic story that lets you watch God move in lives and change them. Hope and forgiveness are big themes and this book is defiantly a five star read.

One Sunday morning in 2012, I listened to our pastor give one of his excellent sermons.

I don’t remember what he said to spark this idea, but I grabbed my church bulletin and began scribbling furiously. By the time the service ended I had a rough outline, character sketches, and the opening scene written. And the title—The Master’s Inn. Some details, of course, changed over the years, but the title stayed the same.

The Master’s Inn was first birthed as a ninety minute play, which my church produced over one weekend in December of 2013. I wrote the play and directed it. I had an excellent cast of characters, plenty of folks lending a hand from technical details to the dinner we hosted for our guests. It was truly a team effort.

The Master’s Inn play was the first serious effort I’d ever made at writing. After it’s success, I began thinking about writing a book. Now, ten years later, I’ve written three creative non-fiction, devotional-style books and contributed to a Chicken Soup for the Soul volume.

During the process of publishing those first three books, the characters from The Master’s Inn pestered me day and night to put them in a novel. Who was I to argue?

And so, those characters got what they wanted. They are no longer confined to ninety minutes and one weekend of publicity. They’re now out there for the whole world to see.

My Review:

This is the LAST book in this series. It can be read by itself, but personally I think it is more fun to read series in order, when possible. This book is just amazing. All the stops were pulled out for this story. Lachlan and Josie have such a story here. From hearts that are hard and far from God, to healing and restoration, this book can be emotional while also adventurous. Forgiveness and healing are huge themes and you are at risk of seriously falling for this couple, and this story. This book is strong enough to make a person want to read all of the other 29 books in this series.

Wow! Well, here we are celebrating the release of Refining Josie, my final book and THE final book in the Independence Islands series. It’s been a journey, hasn’t it? Six authors, five islands, and a boatload of happily-ever-afters.

As a long-time lover of gardens, plants, flowers and trees, it’s been so fun showcasing various parts of what life could be like as someone working in the gardening industry on these islands. I’m married to a horticulturalist, who once upon a time worked at Lyme Park, which was showcased in the 1995 production of Pride and Prejudice. He has also worked at Kew Gardens in England, and it was fun to use some of his experience in these books. (You can see some of my pics on Instagram and on my website)

For Refining Josie I was glad to finally round out some of the family challenges Samantha Green and her family’s ‘Greener Gardens’ business have had to deal with along the way, and to give Josie Green her own voice. This is a story about a prodigal daughter, and some of the ‘why’ behind the behavior, factors I think readers will relate and respond to well.

As an Aussie, I was also happy to include an Aussie hero, someone with some challenges of his own, so I hope you enjoy getting a tiny taste of a Hugh Jackman-esque hero.

My Review:

Pack on the warm blankets, grab a cuppa or hot coffee and really warm soup because this book is cold. It's also very captivating. British author Sivers has his man DI Nathan Quarrel on a case. This case will take us to the home of a woman who's never leaving it. She's paralyzed by acrophobia, but she's left the country? What? She can't even leave her area, yet she has left to live all over the world? Nope, he's not buying that and neither are we. With five deaths, is Lynee one of them? What is happening here? Yes, there are twists and turns. Yes, this will keep you turning pages. Oh yes, this will be one mystery you want solved. Aside from Nathan's personal life, there's a lot of police procedure and a lot of cold heft to this story.

My Review:

This book is for all ages. It's timeless like a few of the famous adventure movies! Luke is going to find his missing father. He simply isn't falling for the line of him being gone forever. Going with him are his best friends, Lydia, who's a translator extraordinaire for her age, and Nathan, who's a pastor's son. Two years ago Luke's dad went on a search for King Solomon's Temple. Clues are all over the place in his office, if they can just put the mystery together. Toss in some time travel and lots of questions with Biblical history and answers and this book is adicitive! It's non-stop action and adventure and I recommend it for all ages.

Terry Overton obtained her Ph.D. in Psychology and her Ed. D. in special education. She taught in public schools and was a school psychologist and a professor before retiring in 2016. She began her second “career” after retirement and now writes Christian fiction books and devotionals and hopes to share the Christian worldview through her writing. Her novels, middle grade readers, and picture books seek to entertain readers through the travel experiences and characters included in her books. She currently resides in Laguna Vista, Texas, near the Texas-Mexico border. She enjoys Biblical history and general Bible studies, writing, and enjoying family and friends. I wanted to write this book as a way to teach middle grade and early teens about Bible history and the importance of Jerusalem in world history and in current history. In order to grab the attention of this age group, the book uses humor and suspense to transport the three main characters, Luke, Nathan, and Lydia, throughout the Bible and ancient and current history.

Here is how it begins:

Chapter 1

The truth is, I wish I had never found it. Or at least, I wish I had found it along with a set of instructions. It started in church. Not that I fancied going every week like my mother. But I go. I am not crazy about talking to the old ladies each week who still want to pinch my cheek and tell my mother how much I have grown. I am not wild about the church windows, the candles, and all of that. There is not much to look at during church except the backs of people’s heads and the preacher. Thankfully, I figured out how to sneak my phone in church by tucking it inside my zippered Bible. Paying attention to a longwinded preacher—even if it is Nathan’s father—is a lot to ask when you are not yet fourteen. So, pretending to listen while looking at my phone was a skill I had mastered. I sit there calmly, pretending to listen while disguising the moves I am making on my phone. And then, I hear the name “Isaac Newton” in the middle of the sermon. That is when it really started. If I had known the length and complexity of what I was about to begin, I might have changed my mind. I guess I could ignore the name Isaac Newton and continue playing Fortnite on my phone. But my curiosity is alive with the name Isaac Newton ringing in my ears.

So, it begins.

Luke is referring to a time-travel device that he and his two good friends find and accidentally set off. The problem is they do not know how to control it. They discovered the device as they researched the travels of Luke’s missing archeologist father. Luke believes his father was searching for the original Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem when he disappeared. Now, the three suddenly find themselves in precarious positions and environments and must figure out how to survive, find Luke’s father, and somehow return back to the current time.
