About the Book

PE Large
Book Title: Priscilla’s Escape
Author: Diane Craver
Genre: Amish Romance, Contemporary
Release date: March 23, 2018
When faith and freedom collide, mistakes made in the past may decide the future.
Twenty-year-old Priscilla King is unsure about joining the Amish Church and wants to use her rumspringa freedom to paint beach landscapes. She’s been offered a two-month-long nanny position in Siesta Key, Florida by an author on a tight writing deadline. The opportunities presented are more than a little tempting for Priscilla, even if it means disappointing her parents and leaving her new boyfriend.
Stephen Hertzler grew up in an Amish family, but, like Priscilla, he’s undecided about joining the church. He loves Priscilla and wants to marry her, though he knows she’s not ready to decide about anything other than her summer plans. His biggest worry is that she’ll meet someone else in Florida and forget him.
When Priscilla’s parents sabotage her part-time job at a local fabric store to dissuade her from following a “worldly lifestyle” in taking the nanny position in Florida, Priscilla is distraught. She knows she would regret not taking this chance. Leaving a note, she sneaks out in disobedience of her parents’ wishes.
Free to paint, dreams she’s never fully envisioned before seem within reach…but at what price?

 My Review:
I do believe this the first book I've read by this author. I found this story about Priscilla to be a good one. To be Amish, or not? That's a huge question and a major decision for Priscilla. I did love that she paints. Without giving too much away, Priscilla has to decide does she go against her family, does she join the church or not? What about Stephen? Does he stay, or does he go with her, and does he join their church or not?
So many major life altering decisions included in this story. This book focuses are real life, and on faith leading people in the right directions. As a series, this book stands alone okay, but I do feel like I missed a few things from not reading the prior books.

About the Author

Class picture - Tom's (2)Diane grew up on a farm outside Findlay, Ohio, and she often acted out characters from her own stories in the backyard. In high school Diane would read during classes and hide a novel in front of her in a propped-up textbook. After her high school graduation, she attended Ohio State University. Then Diane became a schoolteacher and play director. She met her husband while teaching at an orphanage, and they married three years later. It took her that long to convince him she was the one for him! While raising their family in southwestern Ohio, Diane started writing nonfiction and was published. Later she decided it would be a nice escape to write fiction. Diane was blessed with five daughters and one son. Two daughters were born with Down syndrome and live with Diane and her husband. Their other children live close by in Ohio so that’s wonderful. They also have four precious grandchildren. Diane published through a variety of houses. Several years ago, she decided to self-publish her books, so requested the rights back to her previously published stories. From the beginning, she enjoyed self-publishing her Amish romances. Diane gives thanks to God daily for her many blessings

Guest Post from Diane

Hello, Reader Friends,
Priscilla’s Escape is Book 3 in The Bishop’s Daughters Series. This story features Priscilla King, and she is the fourth child born to Amos and Lillian King. You may remember meeting Priscilla in my Dreams of Plain Daughters Series. After I finished writing this series, I decided to continue to write about the Amish and English characters living in Fields Corner, Ohio. They became family and real to me.
The King family have six children with only one son. That is like our Craver family because we have five daughters and one son. Through the years, our family has faced certain challenges with two daughters being born with Down syndrome. Although Priscilla doesn’t have any siblings with special needs, she feels overlooked in her family. It’s like she’s invisible to her parents, especially to her father. He doesn’t understand her passion for painting but favors Molly’s talent for quilting. Everyone needs a cheerleader in their corner at times, and Priscilla is no different. Fortunately, her new boyfriend, Stephen, listens to her dream to paint beach pictures. He even understands her desire to wait to join the church.
All families suffer some type of hardships. It does seem like some more than others. A family’s faith in God gives them hope in their daily lives. Whatever the level of the pain, staying close to God and listening to his voice, gives us the strength to survive. The King family have their share of tragedies, but their faith reminds steadfast. When Priscilla leaves their close-knit unit, they all reach out to her by letter and phone calls. Her siblings even tell their father that he needs to share his secret with Priscilla.
I hope you will enjoy reading Priscilla’s Escape. There is a lot happening in the King family, so you can catch up with your favorite romantic couples in this novel. If you love going to the beach as much as I do, I think you’ll love reading about Priscilla’s beach experiences – some are good, and others are not.

Paige by Jen Gentry

About the Book:

From #1 Bestselling and Award Winning Christian Fantasy Author of The Gifts Series, Jen Gentry, comes a new Christian Fantasy/Paranormal Thriller series. The Legion of the Chosen: Paige, is the first in this exciting new trilogy.

Paige Black is a Goth with a gift. But is she ready to take on the dark powers tearing our world to shreds? She’s skeptical when she meets up with Zab, the Ancient, who walks the earth seeking the Chosen to keep the Dark Ones from finding them first. Paige isn’t sure she wants to take on the Dark Ones or submit to Zab’s training. On the other hand, she’s angry enough to fight anyone, even demons. Paige is Protector of the Chosen. So, bring it, Dark Ones. This Goth girl’s coming for you.

My Review:

This is an excellent read! Paige is easy to connect to, and I was rooting for her throughout the entire story. She's the perfect mix of mature and immature, and she's had a rough upbringing as well. I enjoyed Paige finding out who and what she is, and who among her peers were true friends and allies. I liked how well the forces of darkness were shown meddling in Paige's life. Zeb is great and I could hug the arena. LOL! The betrayals, revelations, action, faith, relationships, there's nothing in this book that I didn't enjoy! From Paige's foster parents to the most deceived people in the story, this book is on the level with Peretti's children's series. It's perfect for teens and adults alike, and it doesn't disappoint. I can't wait to leave a review for the next book in this series.

Shadows of the Past by Ashley Dawn

Shadows from the Past

About the Book:
“…It is the price you pay for choosing to be a cop. Your brother’s life…”

Those words haunt her dreams, and her waking moments. LAPD officer, Aurora Kavvan cannot rest until she finds hebrothers killer. Digging into the past always brings back unpleasant things: memories, guilt…the hit man. Now she is in a race against time to find the murderer before he finds her.

“Kill her. I don’t care how, and I don’t care where, but I want her dead now!”

Someone was trying to kill his dead partner’s sister. FBI agent, Jordan Reiley will stop at nothing to protect the woman he loves. Even if it means going against her wishes; putting himself between her and the man who murdered her
brother.

Will God keep them alive long enough for them to find the truth?

My Review:

Sometimes you take a chance on a book and find you got one you really like. This is one of those cases. I liked the overall action and mystery of the story. I felt for Jordan, rather deeply and I came to like Rorie just fine. Sure some of it seemed obvious to me and some places were kinda repetitive, however, that's realistic to an extent as well. I liked watching Jordan's strong faith and watching Aurora's faith change and grow. I enjoyed this book and I'm going to be reading at least two more in this series.

Stalking Willow by Fay Lamb

About the Book:
What’s a girl to do?
Trailed by a stalker in New York City, Willow Thomas, a young ad executive, scurries back to her small North Carolina hometown and the lake house where ten years earlier a scandal revealed her entire life had been a lie, and a seed of bitterness took root in her soul. The cocoon of safety Willow feels upon her arrival home soon unravels when she meets opposition from her family, faces the man she left behind, and the stalker reveals he is close on her heels. Can Willow learn to trust God to tear out her roots of resentment, reunite her family, ferret out a deadly stalker, and to rekindle the love she left behind?

My Review:
As per the title, Willow has a stalker. She has a past that has already been exposed, and it makes her a greater target. Willow does what I would have done, what most people would do, run back to her roots. Her roots that are full of people, memories, and issues. Worst of all, her stalker has followed her home to Amazing Grace.

I connected easily to Willow and I liked Quinten as soon as I "met" him. Willow's Granny has passed, but she has left so many reminders of her presence, guidance, insight, and perhaps a great deal more in the house for Willow. Bear is a fascinating character as well.

This slow burn mystery is riveting and realistic, filled with a balance of mystery and suspense, faith and forgiveness. I loved the way the story progresses. The themes of trusting God and forgiveness were not overly pushed but remained very visible throughout the story. While I could figure out most of what was coming next, it's written in a way that it was never disappointing.

My Review:

What an enjoyable series! I'm only missing one book in it so far, which I plan to rectify as soon as possible. In this book we have Toby. Trouble? It's at every turn it seems. How much of Toby's troubles are things he has inadvertently caused, and how much has just befallen him?

This book stands on its own, even as a 4th in the series, this cozy mystery is a cute, light read.  Funny, sweet, and a reminder that even in the troubles, God has a plan.

Antique Shops, A Thief, the Community Theater, and Love
Toby’s Troubles, Book Four from the Appleton, West Virginia Romantic Mysteries series
I knew when I wrote this book who Toby was. But capturing Toby’s personality and presenting it in the right way, was a challenge for me. Readers can see his teasing, fun-loving character when he labels the person who’s breaking into his shop as a ghost. But Toby is also serious, smart and successful. The side of him who has had plenty of girl friends, but who’s never gotten serious with any of them, is prominent too. But I didn’t want him to seem frivolous and uncaring, because he isn’t that. With a focus on his interests, love has never—as of yet—been a primary concern, so when Amy Sanderson strolls into his life, she turns out to be his confidant in the time of his troubles. The question is: can she not only have a place in his life as a best friend, but also capture his heart?
Let’s talk about:
Antique Shops
Who doesn’t love a place filled with valuable items, interesting history, and hard-to-find items? Undiscovered Treasures—a shop of antiques, collectibles and junk—could be described as the town gathering place. Everyone loves browsing there. Deciding on such a place for the business of brother and sister, Toby and Caroline Gibson, was a fun choice. From grandfather clocks to unique shaped vases, it’s a shop where treasure hunters could just find what they’re looking for.
A Thief:
There are way too many new people visiting Appleton, West Virginia, so how is someone like Toby suppose to guess what the thief is after? The thief definitely knows what he’s looking for, just not where. He’s tall, thin and a fast runner, especially when escaping across a rooftop. But then, maybe it’s not a new person in town. Maybe the thief is Toby’s part time help, who has a mystery all of his own. It makes things interesting, and a bit terrifying for everyone.
The Community Theater:
One of Toby’s loves is directing and overseeing the community theater. Caroline Gibson writes some of the plays, the actors are usually taken from the West Virginia area, and all proceeds go to charities. But when their main actors, of the current play, elope and leave the play desolate, someone has to step in to fill the gaps. Toby struggles with decisions he doesn’t want to make.
Love
Toby is smart, funny, and a resourseful man. He’s also busy with his community theater activities and his business. Known as the one man in town who’s not interested, at the current time, in getting married, his reputation of loving and leaving is in danger of being wrecked by one small woman. Can she sabotage his well-laid plans and help him realize it’s now or never? Could it be the time when real love is captured by two people, even when one of them seems doomed to ignore what God’s put in their hearts?
I love creating characters. Developing them into real people with real desires, moods, troubles

My Review:
Inside this book is an intense and gripping read. I picked this one to read because of the main character is a photographer. That's something dear to my heart. What I found, was a book so big, so deep and so profound that I can hardly do it justice with a review.

A few times I was holding my breath and I basiclly prayed my way through the story. It's memorable, it's deep, emotional, and shows God's faithfulness in the worst of times.

Alana’s passion for social justice, human rights, and religious freedom shines through her writing, and her books are known for raising tough questions without preaching. Guest Post from Alana Terry

Have you seen in the news that the leaders of North and South Korea have both publicly stated their willingness to promote peace on the Korean peninsula? It was certainly a historic moment, and this part of the world has earned its place in global headlines.
My interest in North Korea, however, goes back over a decade, when as a young mother I received a prayer burden for the people of North Korea. Fast-forward to five years ago when my debut novel was released. The Beloved Daughter follows the life of a young girl who is sent to prison camp because of her father’s Christian faith. In addition to winning several awards, The Beloved Daughter gave an expression to my prayer burden to see North Korea free to worship the one true God.
Out of North Korea is unique among my other titles because it’s the first story that focuses on an American in North Korea. Ian McAllister is captured and held in a Pyongyang prison because of a photograph he took of a young homeless boy. I hope the message leaves you as inspired and encouraged as I was when I was writing it.
